31. In 1933 an unknown American called Clarence Nash went to see thefilmmaker Walt Disney. He had an unusual voice and he wanted to work inDisney's cartoon(动画片) film for children. When Walt Disney heardNash's voice, he said, "Stop! That's our duck!"
The duck was the now-famous Donald Duck, who first appeared in 1934 in thefilm The Wise Little Hen. Donald lived in an old houseboat and wore his sailorjacket and hat. Later that year he became a star after an eight-minute MickeyMouse film. The cinema audience liked him because he was lazy andgreedy, and because he lost his temper very quickly. And they loved his voicewhen he became angry with Mickey's eight nephews. Soon Donald was more popularthan Mickey Mouse himself, probably because he wasn't a goody-goody likeMickey.
In the 1930s, 40s and 50s Donald and his friends Mickey, Goofy and Plutomade hundreds of Disney cartoons. He also made educational films about theplace of the USA in the world and safety in the home. Then in 1966 Donald Duckand his voice disappeared---there were no more new cartoons.
Clarence Nash died in February, 1985. But today's children can still seethe old cartoons on television and hear that famous voice.

“Daddy,” she said, “what's a gossip?”
“a gossip,” said her father, “is someone who repeats unpleasant thingsabout other people, someone who talks about people behind their back.”
“Oh,” she said, “you mean like Mrs. Stein.”
“That's right,” said her father, and he continued, reading his paper.
A few moments later, she interrupted him again.
“Daddy,” she said, “what's a bore?”
“A bore,” said her father, trying to be patient, “is a person who is notinteresting, a person who talks about himself all the time, for example.”
“Oh, you mean someone like Mr. Kelly?” she asked.
“Exactly,” answered her father, returning to his paper.
“Daddy?” she said, with a question in her voice.
“Yes?” said her father, losing his patience. “What is it now?”

33. What makes a person a scientist? Does he have ways or tools of learningthat are different from those of others? The answer is “no”. It is not thetools a scientist uses but how he uses these tools that makes him a scientist. You will probably agree that knowing how to use a power is important to acarpenter. You will probably agree, too, that knowing how to investigate, howto discover information, is important to everyone. The scientist, however, goes one step further, he must be sure that he has a reasonable answer tohis questions and that his answer can be confirmed by other persons. He alsoworks to fit the answers he gets to many questions into a large set of ideasabout how the world works.
The scientist’s knowledge must be exact. There is no room for half rightor right just half the time. He must be as nearly right as the conditionspermit. What works under one set of conditions at one time must work under thesame conditions at other times. If the conditions are different, any changesthe scientist observes in a demonstration must be explained by the changes inthe conditions. This is one reason that investigations are important inscience. Albert Einstein, who developed the Theory of Relativity, arrived atthis theory through mathematics. The accuracy of his mathematics was latertested through investigations, and Einstein’s ideas were shown to be correct. Ascientist uses many tools for measurements. Then the measurements are used tomake mathematical calculations that may test his investigations.
1. What makes a scientist according to the passage? ________
A. The tools he uses. B. The way he uses his tools.
