Smoking, which may be a pleasure for some people, is a serious source of discomfort for their fellows. Further, medical authorities express their 21 about the effect of smoking 22 the health not only of those who smoke but also of those who do not. In fact, nonsmokers who must 23 inhale(吸入) the air polluted by tobacco smoke may 24 more than the smokers themselves. As you are doubtless 25 , a considerable number of our students have joined in an effort to 26 the university to ban smoking in the classrooms. I believe they are entirely right in their aim. 27 , I would hope that it is 28 to achieve this by calling on the smokers to use good judgment and show concern 29 others rather than by regulation. I am therefore asking you to maintain No Smoking in the classrooms, seminar rooms and auditoriums. This will prove that you have the non-smokers' health and well-being 30 , which is very important to a large number of our students. |
